Simply put, it's a computer that electronically controls the heart of the engine.
MCMs are primarily used in Mercedes-Benz large trucks and buses, such as the Actros, Arocs, and Atego.

MCM's main features

MCM controls and monitors virtually all engine-related systems in real time.

Function Explanation
Fuel injection control Injector control, injection amount/timing adjustment
Air intake control EGR valve, turbocharger control
Engine speed and load control Engine torque control according to throttle input
Cooling and temperature control Fan clutch, coolant temperature management
Post-processing system integration SCR (AdBlue), DPF control
Sensor monitoring Crank/cam sensor, MAP, MAF, temperature sensor, etc.
Diagnostics and DTC Management Stores/communicates error codes in conjunction with the OBD system

MCM-related failure symptoms

Symptoms Possible causes
Cannot start MCM power/ground problem, internal circuit failure
Engine power limitation (limp mode) Sensor input error, CAN communication error
DTC occurs in large quantities Problems with MCM-linked components such as injectors, EGR, and NOx sensors
Warning lights associated with AdBlue problems Communication error between MCM and ACM
