What is ECA?

The Transmission Electronic Clutch Actuator (ECA) is a key component of the Opticruise automated transmission system. It automatically controls mechanical clutch operation electronically.
This device allows automatic clutch operation without the driver’s clutch pedal input, while maintaining the mechanical structure of a manual transmission.

What is the Scania Electronic Clutch Actuator?

Item Details
Part Name Transmission Electronic Clutch Actuator (also known as ECA, ECA1, or ECA2)
Applicable Vehicles Scania commercial vehicles (Euro 4~6) / Models equipped with Opticruise
Role Controls clutch operation electronically to enable automated shifting
Location Mounted on the side of the transmission, attached to the clutch release mechanism
Control Method Interlinked in real time with TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and EMS (Engine Management System) via CAN communication

Operating Principle

When the driver accelerates, decelerates, or when the vehicle reaches certain conditions (start, stop, slope, etc.):

The TCU determines whether a gear shift is required

The Electronic Clutch Actuator operates the clutch electronically/hydraulically

After the gear shift, the clutch is safely re-engaged

✅* This process occurs automatically within a few seconds, allowing the driver to drive without operating the clutch pedal. *

Failure Symptoms

Symptom Possible Cause
Gear not shifting / jumping gears ECA malfunction, position sensor error
Stuck in Neutral / Unable to start Clutch actuation failure (stuck or inoperative)
Dashboard warning lights (e.g., TCM fault, gear fault) TCU or actuator communication error
Vibration / noise Internal mechanical fault or piston contamination
